Since one of the primary criteria for restaurants we feature at CentralCoastDining.com is
sourcing local wine, we wanted to give our restaurants the opportunity to showcase the local wine you can enjoy while dining at their establishment.
Louie’s California Bistro in Santa Barbara chooses Carr Winery as their local wine to showcase for their August promotion at CentralCoastDining.com.
We don’t think they could have made a better choice as Carr Winery exemplifies everything we love about the Central Coast. A small handcrafted winery in downtown Santa Barbara, Carr Winery sources Santa Barbara County grapes grown by winemaker Ryan Carr. Since the vineyards are operated under Carr’s supervision, the grapes are grown to his exact specifications. The focus of the winery is Pinot Noir from the Santa Rita Hills, however, the micro-climates of Santa Barbara County allow Carr to produce a number of excellent wines including Pinot Gris, Cabernet Franc, Grenache, and Syrah.
A Southern California native, winemaker Ryan Carr first discovered the wine industry after
moving to the Santa Ynez Valley and sampling some of the local wines. Carr started work pruning vines in the local vineyards and received an opportunity to make wine during the 1998 harvest with Central Coast Wine Services in Santa Maria. After learning the basics, Carr produced his first vintage in 1999 in his garage. It consisted of 10 cases of Cabernet Sauvignon and was given to his friends and family. With an overwhelmingly enthusiastic response to his wine, Carr Vineyards and Winery was born. Carr honed his skills and quickly went from 10 cases in his garage to 1000 cases by 2004 and National recognition.
In 2007 Carr Winery opened a tasting room in downtown Santa Barbara. One of the first tasting rooms downtown, Carr was on the forefront of what has become a popular downtown activity for locals and visitors. Located in a 1940′s Quinon Hut at 414 North Salsipuedes Street, Carr Winery has a unique character you have to see for yourself.

Since this offer benefits dogs of the Central Coast, it only seems appropriate to mention
the honorary member of the Carr Winery Family known as Roxy Carr. A 12 year old Labrador/ Rotweiler mix that was saved from the pound when she was 6 months old. Deemed “Head of Security” at the vineyard, Roxy spends her days chasing off deer and squirrels while keeping the winery crew in line. She has a tendency to consume some of the finest grapes in town. Roxy may greet you at the tasting room door.
Come see for yourself why we call Carr Winery one of the best on the Central Coast.
